Summary:  

Ensure the coordination and development, implementation and evaluation of exercise programs for persons in residential, cottages, and assisted areas of living.  Provides balanced, creative programming based on the residents’ physical needs.  This will include developing, promoting and monitoring all exercise related programs for the Wellness Center.  Coordinator will also train and supervise volunteers who serve in the Wellness Center.

Seeking individual with one or more of following accreditation:

American college of sports medicine
American council on exercise
National association of sports medicine
National strength and conditioning association

This is a part-time position!! Not full-time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 Develop exercise programs that match residents’ current needs and strive to maintain and develop abilities.
Maintain public awareness of all scheduled exercise programs in a timely manner and in ways that meet each resident’s levels of cognition.
Implement and facilitate exercise programs focusing on varying populations of the community including; group and individual programming.
Evaluate exercise programs as to the success of meeting the above criteria.
Maintain supplies and equipment.
Oversee contract providers regarding payment, evaluation of programming and contract service
Reconcile all invoices associated with Wellness Center activities
Supervise and train volunteers for Wellness Center services.
Establish marked walking paths inside and outside the building.
Work on special projects assigned by the Director of Residential Services
Work schedule will be mostly Days however could include some evenings and weekends.

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor’s degree in health related field with certification in exercise/ fitness training from accredited agency or high school diploma or general education degree (GED), with certification in exercise/ fitness training from accredited agency and one year of experience working with the elderly. Employee must participate in orientation training, attend mandatory in-services and/or other department specified training in-services.  Must have ability to supervise effectively.

Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to use the Community’s computerized time clock system.  Employee should also have computer knowledge and have ability and willingness to learn and use, if any, any software applications that may pertain to this position.
                  
Physical Demands:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk.  Occasionally he/she must assist residents to and from activities - walking with and/or transporting them in wheelchairs or other mobility assistive equipment – which often times includes riding in and operating an elevator.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  During emergencies and without the use of elevators, the employee must be able to report to assigned area within multi-floored facility and physically assist in resident transfers and evacuations.

Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Work is primarily indoors in a climate controlled setting.  Work space is typical office space, and/or activity area within a multi-floored Continuing Care Retirement Community that operates 24 hours every day.  Employee must be able to walk through out the facility as frequently as necessary to perform duties.  Occasionally, the employee is required to perform duties outdoors, including planned activities and traveling with residents on day length or multi-day trips to various destinations.
