Franklin College invites applications for the Director of the Hive – Franklin College’s
innovation laboratory – and Instructor of Business at Franklin College, which together
comprise a full-time, 12-month, salaried position, reporting to the Associate Provost, to
begin in July 2019. The college provides a strong, active, and tailored liberal arts
education through small class sizes and intentional relationships between students,
faculty, and staff. Located about 20 miles from downtown Indianapolis, Franklin College
supports purposeful and practical academic experiences in and out of the classroom that
leverage this location as students pursue personal, intellectual and professional
Responsible for building and managing the Hive, the director will join the college at a
time of exciting change. Partnered with the college’s Ruth Lilly Center for Exploration as
one of several engaged learning areas, the Hive will house student consulting services,
business and idea incubation, creative work/play, and experimentation. The directorship
requires connecting students with community partners and managing student project
teams to advance student learning while also addressing targeted workforce needs.
Additionally, this position carries half-time teaching duties—six credit hours (two
courses) per semester—in the college’s Department of Economics, Business, and
Accounting, ideally instructing in areas of marketing e.g., Contemporary Marketing,
Consumer Behavior, or related courses.
This leadership role requires collaboration with faculty, staff, and off-campus partners
to create vibrant curricular, co-curricular, and community partnerships, including a
willingness to cultivate financial support from community partners as appropriate.
Through increasingly immersive and hands-on methods of teaching and learning, the
college is committed to developing fundamental skills necessary for Franklin College
students to enhance the marketplace and their participation in it. The person stepping
into this role will be a key participant in this strategic direction.
Requirements for this position: an MBA or doctorate; experience with marketing, sales,
business development, or community partnership development; interest in teaching
undergraduates and demonstrated promise of teaching excellence; and at least three
years of leadership experience in a professional workplace.
Preference will be given to those with a demonstrated passion for innovation and
creativity, marketing experience, project management experience, higher education
experience, and scholarship in innovation studies.
